  • Words to show that the text is comparing and contrasting more than one thing may include: like, unlike, but, even though, while, however, although.

  • Questions may require you to compare one part of a text with another part of the same text.

  • You will be expected to give the similarities or the differences in your answer.

  • Words such as like, unlike, but, even though, while, however, although, whereas, in common indicate that the text is written to compare and contrast.

  • Comparative adjectives may be used to make comparisons such as: taller than, greater than, better / worse, more / less.

  • When possible, refer to both parts of the text you are comparing, to make your answer clearer.
