'I'll see you for the audition at lunchtime, Lauren' said Mr Smith 'there's lots of competition for the lead role'.

Oh no, Lauren thought, I really wanted the main part, now someone else, like Rosie, is bound to get it. Lauren had a great singing voice, which was better than Rosie's. However, she found it hard to learn her lines whereas Rosie was always word perfect. She could hardly concentrate in maths, Mrs Bass droned on and on and frankly Lauren couldn't ever see herself needing graphs in her future as an actress so there seemed little point in listening. Maybe if she told all her friends that the auditions were tomorrow instead of this lunchtime then there wouldn't be so much competition? Maybe if she told Rosie that she had already been given the part and there was no point in Rosie going to the auditions? She continued to come up plans to get the part when the bell rang for next lesson.

'Wait up Rosie' she called 'I've got something to tell you.' In a flash she decided. 'It's the auditions for the school play at lunchtime. Do you want to come?' She would try her best and play it fair, her Mum would be proud!
