  • You may be asked to find and copy a word or phrase from the text.

  • Reread only the part of the text the question refers to. This will save you time.

  • Try out all of the words in a given list before choosing which one to use.

  • If you are given a list to choose from, some of the words may be trying to trick you they may be synonyms for the original word when it is used in other contexts, but not in this particular context.

  • Look for the definition of the word nearby in the text. Words and phrases including like, including, such as, known as, meaning or which may help you to find the definition.

  • Use your own knowledge of synonyms for the given word or look for synonyms in the text.

  • The more detail you provide in an explanation, the more marks you will be awarded. If the answer box contains more than one line, give a more detailed answer.
