Identify a passive sentence by checking who or what did the action. If the person (or thing) is not given in the sentence, it is passive. If the person (or thing) appears after the verb, it is a passive sentence, e.g. The window was broken by Anne.
The passive voice places attention on the person or thing the action is done to, rather than who did the action.
